Welcome to more than mundanity. Silly name, right? Well, sure. But I chose it (a better version of my original title thanks to my wife, #microcosm) because it embodies so much of what I hope to accomplish, to reveal, and to encourage through this substack. As one who has traveled the world, navigated peril, and met remarkable people, I have been struck by how remarkably inexcusable and yet alarmingly easy it is to slip into boredom and despair. Sure, we all have responsibilities, many of which are less than exciting but are good and right to fulfill. I am not denigrating responsibility, nor am I positing an entitlement to excitement. I am, however, highlighting the fact that we are, according to the eminent Professor Clive Staples, “far too easily pleased.” Our propensity to settle causes us to miss out on so much of the joy and beauty in this world because the wheel ruts of tedium run deep.
